I really like this because it goes along with your usual style. But i do think that with some work you could make it even better and suitable for your AP portfolio. First, work a bit on the finger tips--don't be afraid to add some detail! Also, solidify the trees some. Although i like the movement, it is a bit confusing. And lastly, i think you could blend the sleeve wrinkles a bit more. But honestly, its really good and the backround looks great! Painting seems to be a strong part of you!! :)

At first I would say work on the trees because right now you have lollipop trees. But you have such a style thats identifiable to you that I think it works and looks really nice. Its almost very geometric looking if that make sense. For me, I look directly to the eyes and again I like how they are staring off at something we as the viewer can't see. I think your a better painter than you give yourself credit for. A great painter actually!

You can clearly see the advancement from last year to this year in the portrait of your dad. While in no way a bad piece, this portrait is a little less technical than some of your others. I love the colors, value, and contrasts, and then shine spots and shadows are the face are really well done. Go back through and add some detail to really make it pop and it'll be good to go in your breadth.
